SITUATION ON THE ENGLAND TOUR
Proline Soccer Academy's U-18 Team of 17 Players and a total of 8 other dignitaries among them included officials, Journalists and well wishers left the country (Uganda) for the long awaited England tour starting on the 18th April, 2008.
Luyiga Johnson (GK), Baganza Henry, Lubega Moses, Feni Ali Muhamond, Bigala Denis, Sakali Juma, Imamu Isaac, Mukisa Ssenabulya Yusuf, Ssenkubyra Mister Devis, Kakuba Alex, Kiseka Ronnie (C), Kakooza Shaban (Team Manager) and Mujib Kasule (Director) left on Friday 18th April. While Mayanja Buruhan (GK), Bukenya Ivan, Edema Patrick Lechi, Lopida Robert, Mbaziira Simon Monie, Abubaker Lubowa (coach), Yasin Kasule (Operations), Bakkabulindi William (Operations/Counsellor), Anthony Ndawula (counselor) and Mark Namanya (The Daily Monitor's Sports Editor) flight was on the 19th April, as well as Rueben Luyombya (Super F.M. Sports Team) made it on the 23rd April, making a contingent of 25.
Before the Team left Entebbe International Airport for England aboard Kenya Airways, on Friday the 18th April, 2008, played a testimonial match amongst themselves at Lugogo training ground ending 2-3 score line. This game evoked much expectation from whoever watched the boys play or heard a conversation or even those who read an article from the local press.
The flair show cased on that morning and the fact they (U-18s) are already at semi-finals of Uganda's FA Cup (Kakungulu) has put us at Proline on a task of having ready information about the Teams progress in England. Kyomuhendo Mariam (Academy Secretary) says the office phone and her mobile have never stopped ringing. Jagwe Mohamed (Operations) talks of his recently acquired celebrity status in Wandegeya, a Kampala City Suburb because of his attachment to Proline.
Both coaching and non coaching staff members at Proline are in trouble with local soccer lovers who either come for Proline updates or want their relatives to join Proline Soccer Academy immediately. At the National Theatre, Uganda where I do part time Acting colleagues and fans no longer remember me as Destinee. Since the media started reporting about the England tour, ladies and gentlemen guys are calling "Proline".
There were emotions on Wednesday when U-18 disserted players lead by Ivan Musazi appeared for the first time at Lugogo training ground to read the current situation at Proline. They regretted for having left the Academy but later consoled themselves by saying that wish the "English Boys" all the best and chances are that they occupy their places at the Academy once they are left vacant.
At the House (Academy Hostel), they are apparently 5 players present as the rest went home for a short holiday. Oloum Francis, Mulindwa Timothy, Otim Kizito, Nuwa Sadat and Elasu Mike do train with KCC FC and their Thursday training was impressive. Mawanda Musa (Assistant Captain) has maintained his Wednesday training sessions with U-16s while coming from school.
Meanwhile from the emotions and expectations the boys rose at Entebbe Airport on their maiden departure for England, where the likes of Mukisa, Sakali, Johnson, Kiseka and Buluhan shed tears and hugged relatives and remaining Proline staff endlessly, all I can say now is "Uganda is waiting for you".
